Shattered

Updated: Feb 1, 2021

Foreword: Another piece I wrote from a poetry prompt. My inspiration taken from thinking about people, relationships, times in my life I once cared for and held dear, now passed.

Shattered and battered

As the body it clatters

Down the roads of life..

Shattered and tattered

Over potholes spills warm grey matter

Lay motionless as roadkill on the highways of strife..

Shattered and haggard

Body lays flattened

Dead, motionless eyes blind to the light..

Shattered shards like crystals

Reflect an almost mystical

Broken jigsaw discarded on the tarmac called life..

Those passing by with life's clunk and clatter

Ignore an existence which once was

Body lays, motionless broken and shattered.

But just because the existence has shattered

Don't fool yourself into thinking

The aforementioned never mattered.
