Bitter
Updated: Dec 15, 2020
Foreword: I was inspired to write this when I was contacted to write a piece for possible inclusion in an anthology publication. One of the themes I was interested in writing about is Life's Bitter Truth. I was given the option to write a poem, so of course, I jumped at the opportunity! I thought about how harsh life is for some, or can become for people. Yet despite changes in my own life, I still turn to my faith in God.
The fact of the matter is
Life has a truth which is bitter
Storm surge will sweep through
Discard you aside like shredded, torn litter
Even for those who are keen
Will see that the grass is not always green
When over the fence they peer
See a mirror reflecting their fear
With one hand it offers you hope
On the other, left to wonder how you will cope?
For I know I cannot do life alone
I know that you see me, I know that you know
But what do I do when I doubt?
When I feel life is locking me out?
I turn to those in the end
Who never fail me, always defend
God, father wife and my brother
They love me, no joy in seeing me suffer
So, the fact of the matter is
The truth of our lives is not always bitter
Love and light, in the mix make it sweeter
To bare life when on the edge we teeter.
